“Design is About Connection” — Louis Yiu Discusses His Creative Philosophy
Designer Louis Yiu, founder and creative director of A.S.M.D. creations, has been awarded the Gold Prize in the Logo Design category for his project A.S.M.D. at Future Art & Design Award 2025 Autumn Season.
His winning work - Logo Design A.S.M.D. was praised by the jury as “original and creatively conceived, embodying connection, structure, and transformative creativity.”
Louis Yiu leads A.S.M.D. creations, a multidisciplinary design studio known for its expertise in brand and logo design, visual communication, and packaging design. Over the years, Yiu’s work has earned numerous international awards, establishing him as one of the leading creative forces in Taiwan’s design industry. His open-minded attitude and passion for design drive him to constantly explore new perspectives and adapt to the evolving creative landscape.
Q: Please give us a brief introduction about yourself and your creative background.
Louis: I am the founder and creative director of A.S.M.D. creations based in Taipei. I have extensive experience in brand and logo design, visual communication, and packaging design. Throughout my career, my works have received numerous international awards. My dedication and passion for the design industry keep me open-minded to new changes and challenges.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in creative / art / design?
Louis: Since I was young, I’ve loved expressing myself through creativity. I hope to use design to transform ideas into works that inspire people and solve problems.
Q: Can you describe the creative process behind your work and what motivates you to create?
Louis : My creative process usually begins with observation and learning, followed by constant experimentation until I find the most suitable form of expression. My creative drive comes from the desire to transform ideas into concrete works and to connect with others through my creations.
Q: What was the most exciting or challenging part of creating the work you submitted to the competition?
Louis: The most challenging part is expressing concepts clearly and creatively — but it’s also the most exciting part, because you learn new methods and grow through the process.
Q: How would you describe your creative style and the key characteristics that define your work?
Louis : My creative style is simple and intuitive, with a strong emphasis on composition and detail. I excel at presenting complex ideas in a clear and logical manner.
Q: What has been your experience participating in the competition? Were you satisfied with the process and results?
Louis: Participating in this competition was a great learning and communication experience. I’m very satisfied with the process and the results.
Q: Where do you see the future of the art and design industry heading in the next 5-10 years?
Louis: With the rise of AI, increasing awareness of sustainability, and global cultural exchange, I believe art and design in the next five to ten years will be more integrated with technology and ecology, while also celebrating personal expression and multiculturalism.
