At the World Grand Prix Photography Award Spring 2026, Yuzhen Huang received the Silver Award in Mobile Landscape Photography for Valentine’s Day at Mt. Fuji, a serene landscape image captured during a family journey through Mount Fuji.
Taken near Lake Yamanaka and Lake Kawaguchi, the photograph reflects not only the beauty of the iconic mountain, but also a deeply personal moment of emotional healing and quiet hope. Through mobile photography, the image transforms a fleeting travel memory into a reflection on resilience, family connection, and the restorative power of nature.

A study of Mt. Fuji during the 2026 Lunar New Year. This photograph captures the instinctive reaction to beauty, as my family and I documented the mountain simultaneously from diverse angles. Technically, the shot focuses on the high-contrast details of the melting snow. Using a shutter speed optimized for handheld stability (ISO 50,F1.8 and 1/405s) , the image captures the crisp atmosphere and the vibrant blue of the Japanese winter sky with exceptional sharpness.
Interview
Q. What inspired you to take this award-winning photo? Is there a story behind the piece you’d like to share?
Huang:
This photo was captured during a family trip with my mother and elder sister. On Valentine’s Day, we found ourselves mesmerized by the sheer beauty of Mt. Fuji as seen from Yamanakako and Kawaguchiko.
At that time, I was struggling with some setbacks in my career plans from 2025, but this breathtaking view helped lift that shadow and gave me a sense of peace.
Also, a local person told me that seeing the peak of Mt. Fuji brings good fortune. I wasn't sure if I believed it then, but receiving the news of this award has certainly made me a believer!
Q. Were there any challenges during the process of creating this series or image? How did you navigate them?
Huang:
The most significant challenge was balancing the framing against the shifting light to perfectly capture Mt. Fuji. To ensure I had the best possible perspectives, I used multiple devices to document the peak from various angles. This resulted in a collection of over a thousand photos, and I dedicated an entire hour to the rigorous curation process to select the definitive shot.
Q. In your view, what role does photography play in today’s world?
Huang:
In my perspective, photography plays an extremely significant role today because it allows us to preserve beautiful moments, no matter how busy our work or daily lives become.
For example, when I feel overwhelmed by the pressure of work or my studies, I like to take a stroll in nature and take photos with my family and friends. Discussing composition and framing with my elder sister helps me focus on the beauty around me, which is incredibly relaxing.
