Fusing Imagination and Reality: the Story Behind Danny’s Fantastic Journey

Teng-Li Hsu is a floral designer with over twenty years of experience, known for his ability to create living installations that reflect the transient beauty of life. His artistic philosophy revolves around the healing power of creativity and imagination, drawing from personal experiences to create universal narratives through his art.

Q: What initially inspired this project?

Danny: Danny’s Fantastic Journey was born from my family’s real experiences — moving across countries, facing isolation, and finding hope through creativity. As a floral designer, I have spent over two decades creating living installations where flowers bloom and fade like moments in life. I wanted to capture that fragile beauty through animation — to show that imagination, like nature, can heal and rebuild.

Q: What was the most exciting or most challenging aspect of bringing this work to life?

Danny: The challenge was transforming personal memories into a visual language that feels universal. Every scene — from the greenhouse to the floating whale — carries layers of symbolism rooted in real emotions. I also worked with my family as the story’s characters, so it became both an artistic creation and a diary of our shared resilience.

Q: How was your experience taking part in the Future Art & Design Award UK?

Danny: It’s been deeply meaningful. FADA connects artists who are exploring the intersection of design, emotion, and storytelling. Receiving this recognition reaffirms that art can cross boundaries — not just of geography, but of heart.
