Soundtracking Hope and Healing: Kankawee Nilthajan Wins Platinum for BlueLine

Composer Kankawee Nilthajan has been awarded the Platinum Prize in the Film / Game Scoring category at the Global Best Creative Award for the evocative and emotionally rich score to BlueLine, an upcoming title from Going Places Studio.

From the very beginning, Nilthajan immersed themselves in the world of BlueLine—a hand-drawn video game centered on a character named Blue, who navigates inner conflict, societal pressure, and the search for happiness. “I started to see the world through Blue’s eyes,” says Nilthajan. “From that point, the music started to take shape—reflective, bittersweet, and filled with layers of emotional storytelling.”

The soundtrack unfolds like Blue’s journey: optimistic and introspective at the beginning, then gradually deepening into themes of self-doubt, emotional resilience, and quiet healing. A particularly meaningful moment for Nilthajan comes during a string-layered section of the score, which captures the emotional resolution of Blue’s story. “That part represents a reflective and heartfelt feeling,” they note, “and it became a personal favorite.”

Inspired not only by the character’s arc but also by Thai culture, landscapes, and everyday life, Nilthajan's music weaves together introspective melodies and immersive textures—designed to offer both emotional connection and inner peace to players.

“I hope my music can help audiences heal,” they say. “To create a safe, immersive, and meaningful environment where people feel emotionally engaged through Blue’s journey.”

Full Interview

1. What inspired the setting or context of this work?

First, I was fortunate to compose a game music for Going Places Studio, producing a stunning video game called BlueLine. As a composer, I start to immerse myself in the world of BlueLine and see it through Blue's eyes, then I have a clear picture of what Blue sees and feels about everything around him. My initial inspiration starts from the characteristics of Blue, the main character, trying to grasp happiness in a society, conflicting desires, pressures, expectations, and self-doubt. Also, a stunning hand-drawn, crafted design is a great inspiration for creating immersive and introspective musical ideas.

2. What emotions or ideas were you hoping to express through this work?

I initiate a musical idea about Blue's journey and build layers of sound around these soundscapes. I express the musical ideas through Blue's journey with an optimistic, meaningful, reflective, and introspective musical vibe as the introduction and try to create a layer of deep, heartfelt, bittersweet, and emotional vibe as the epilogue.

3. Is there a particular element or detail in the piece that holds special meaning for you?

I found a touching moment when the strings' soundscape layer is present in the composition. It represents an optimistic and reflective feeling, delivering a heartfelt and emotional vibe. For me, it is an engaging conclusion to Blue's journey.

4. Was there a specific concept or influence that guided your creative process?

Blue's spiral as he deals with external expectations and internal conflict, and Thailand's culture, landscapes, and daily life from Blue's eyes.

5. What do you hope audiences take away from experiencing your work?

My music could deliver a safe, immersive, relaxing and engaging environment for audiences and game players, helping them to heal and grasp happiness from the journeys of Blue through the soundscape I create.
