Interview

Q1: Could you share the background and setting of this award-winning photo?

Hsien-Chih: This photograph was taken in autumn while I stood beneath a canopy of maple trees, looking upward into the sky. I was drawn to the natural layering of colors above me, where warm autumn leaves and traces of late summer green met the clear blue sky. Instead of framing the landscape from eye level, I chose a quiet upward view to capture a more intimate moment with light, color, and season.

Q2: Is there a particular detail in this photo that you especially love?

Hsien-Chih: What I love most is the subtle boundary where green, orange, and red leaves gently merge in the center of the frame. Under the sunlight, this transition becomes a nearly invisible line where seasons shift in silence. That delicate zone anchors the composition, balancing movement, order, and harmony within the image.

Q3: Did you have any specific inspiration or artistic concept in mind during the creation?

Hsien-Chih: The work is built around the idea of a “spectrum of leaves.” By using an upward gaze, I wanted the canopy to resemble a living spectrum activated by light. The gaps between the leaves and the sky were intentionally preserved so that sunlight becomes part of the composition, presenting nature not only as scenery but as a visual rhythm of time, season, and breath.

Q4: What do you hope viewers will feel or reflect upon when they see this photo?

Hsien-Chih: I hope viewers pause for a moment and notice the often overlooked beauty above them, the quiet interplay of light, color and seasonal layers. This photograph invites them to reflect on change and to see transience not only as loss, but as subtle radiance, renewal and gratitude for each passing moment.
